Note from the Author: How many researchers applied for LIES?
Lies and the Lying Liars who tell Them was researched with the aid of 14 students when Franken was granted a fellowship at Harvard.
On page xii of Lies (p. xvi in the paperback), Franken tells his readers that his study group received seven hundred (700) applicants.
However in an October 2003 interview with the Harvard Crimson, it’s reported that “Franken received applications from 90 students detailing why they wanted to be in his study group.”
90? … 700? …
The real number wouldn’t be important enough to matter to most, but applying Frankens method of what constitutes a “Lie”, this unfortunately counts.
Franken routinely uses small details reported by columnists that allegedly contradict his targets and uses these as examples “lies” (see “friendly with Ann Coulter”). By this method, Franken lied about his number of applicants and should be held to the same scorn he holds others.
